1. Boat Trips Algarve
Boat Trips are fun for all the family, and the Algarve offer some of the best around. While adults can enjoy a well-deserved rest and some beautiful scenery, kids will enjoy the excitement of being out at sea, and trying to spot the marine life that often makes a welcome appearance. There are a wealth of different boat trips to choose from, whether you want to focus on enjoying the local landscapes, chasing dolphins, or even fishing, you can take your pick. It is still warm enough to enjoy being outside and some even host a BBQ lunch or picnic on a private beach included in the price.
2. Mini Golf Algarve
The Algarve is famous for its stunning and challenging golf courses, but did you know it also offers some great mini golf courses which the whole family can try as well? There are many fantastic themed mini golf courses such as at the Family Golf Park in Vilamoura and Alfubeira where they course is themed around accent Rome. The course is easy enough for kids to enjoy and will keep everyone entertained for an hour or so!
3. Life Science Centres
Who said something education can’t be fun?! The Centros de Ciências Vivas in Faro and Lagos make for a fantastic family day out, with many interesting exhibitions and hands on experiments that children and adults alike will just love. A family ticket, which covers 2 adults and up to 6 children is under 10 Euros so a fantastic bargain too!
4. Karting Algarve
An adrenaline packed adventure that all the family can enjoy! Karting is a great activity to get the whole family bonding and having fun together. In Albufeira, there is a great all weather indoor track, called ‘Hot Wheels Raceway.’ An alternative is the track at Almancil, or try the fun karting track near Portimão.
5. Beach Day
It is a holiday after all! Luckily the Algarve enjoys great weather almost all year round and even in the cooler months a trip to the beach is possible. The Algarve is home to some of the most spectacular beaches in the world, some beaches in the Algarve have higher waves than others, so make sure you find the right beach for the age of you children. Perfect for a day on the beach, making sandcastles, taking strolls and paddling in the sea.
6. Visit the land of Sand
The annual Sand Sculpture Festival at Pera is the largest sand sculpture festival in the world. Generally up and running from May till October. Lovely during the day and magical by night. There is a bar serving drinks and snacks, occasional live music and a very relaxed vibe. Every year there is another theme. Tickets are 9 euros for adults, 4.50 euros for the kids in the Algarve. Free for kids under 5 years. Prices may vary per year.
7. Water Parks
Get wet and wild with no less than four exiting venues to choose from in the Algarve. Slide and Splash is the oldest, with their news slide the Big Wave! Zoomarine, has rides and shows focused on environmental education as well as slides, and lots of fun stuff going on, like dolphin shows, and much more.
8. Discover a whole world of fun
FunWorld in Porches, close to Lagoa, is hosting a summer programme of events for six to 16 year old, with the focus on being active, healthy and, as the name suggest, having lots of fun!!!! Week-long camps run until half of September (8.30am to 5.45pm daily), each with a different theme- everything from Star Wars and the Wild West to Junior Masterchef! Costs include all activities, insurance, lunch, morning and afternoon snacks and drinks.
9. Tree climbing
If you ar looking for an adventure, a trip to a tree-top assault course, you only have to buy a ticket at Luso Aventura. Lusa Adventure Parcs have sites in Lagos and Albufeira and have a variety of high rope courses, designed for those seeking an exciting phsical challenge, all under the watchfull supervision and encouraging guidance of qualified personnel. Both parks offer courses accessible from four years old, and no physical training is required to enjoy this nice adventure!
10. Treasure hunting
Everyone loves a treasure hunt, and geocaching has been dubbed the world's biggest. It involves using GPS-enabled devices ( such as mobile phones) to navigate to geocaches (containers) hidden at local locations. The treasure, or geocache, can be anyting frm a 35 mm film container to a tupperware box. There is generally little of value in the geocache, often just a logbook and possibly some toys for the kids, but the pleasure comes from trying to find the box!
Alternatively, now very popular, is Pokemon GO. Download the app and then hunt the local streets, beaches and parks for the cute characters, which appear on your screen.
