About the Place

Os Moinhos, the windmills Messines, situated on a hill overlooking a great part of the Algarve, sleeps 4 to 6 people, divided over two mills with private garden and pool and covered BBQ terrace. Distance between the two mills is approx 10/15 meters.

A short distance south of the market town of Messines, perched on top of a hill, you will find our two Windmills Messines, overlooking a bigger part of the Algarve. The windmills were built in 1848 and used as corn and olive mills.
They have been beautifully restored and extended to provide the most romantic holiday destination Algarve. They also have a private pool and stunning views to the coast.

Accommodation

Each windmill has a double bedroom on the first floor, one of which has an en-suite shower room. The large mill has a spacious lounge/dining room with wood burning stove, reading room, kitchen, and bath room.
It has a lovely covered BBQ terrace with table and chairs. Ideal for wining and dining, or just sitting and watching the sunset

Main mill:
Large lounge and dining room with wood burning stove, CD and DVD player and radio, board games, library and views to the terrace below.
Off this lounge is a quiet reading room.
Farmhouse style, rustic kitchen and dining area, gas cooker, fridge, microwave, etc. leading to a small study and shower room. Lower stairwell room leading to circular upper bedroom.
Guest mill:
Lower sitting room, with two extra beds for children, with stairs leading to upper double bedroom with en-suite shower room and stairs to roof terrace with incredible 360 degree views.

Outside

The holiday windmills Messines have a very pieceful, and private walled and fenced garden with fantastic views towards the coast. 2000 m2 of privacy where you can enjoy fantastic sun sets and sun rises from the roof top terrace of the guest mill, watch the million upon millions of stars, while zipping a drink or at one of the many terraces. The covered terrace with nice seating next to the built in BBQ, which is also nice for some fresh evenings! The garden has nice flowers and plants like yucca's, olive trees, and various herbs.

Enjoy the sun and shade, all nicely decorated areas with original details of the windmills.

Surroundings

Although the Windmills are situated in the interior of the Algarve, all necessary facilities and highlights are within small distance from the holiday windmills Messines.

The old fairy-like Silves, the former Moorish capital of the Algarve, is only a few kilometres away from the windmills Messines. It’s a pleasant town on a hill with cobbled streets, restaurants, shops and a castle. Messines is a typical Portuguese village with an authentic centre, sunny terraces and charming cafés.

From the Windmills Messines towards the beautiful coast of the Algarve is only 20 minutes by car. Here you’ll find lively coastal resorts as well as small fishing villages where you can still experience a Portuguese atmosphere. The coastal area of the Algarve is spectacular with its golden rock formations and attractive sandy beaches.

If you are looking for an active holiday, there are lots of possibilities for snorkelling, diving,sailing, jet skiing, walking, mountain biking, horse riding, tennis and golf. You can also go on a dolphinor jeep safari.

The windmills Messines Algarve, is a unique place to stay, basic, but very special, as the Windmills have kept there original details, which gives a very romantic and relaxing atmosphere.
