About the Place

I sat on the partly covered terrace, under the most romantic Bougainvillea, enjoying the absolutely stunning views to the coast. I looked at the sea and thought: I am so happy I can present this quinta Algarve to you!

Monte Boi is a beautiful hill top quinta Algarve, with lush lawns and a private pool. The quinta lies close to the traditional market town of São Bartelomeu de Messines (Messines) which provides all amenities including supermarkets, bars and restaurants. Within a 30 minutes drive you can reach the coast with its gorgeous beaches, golf courses, water parks etc. The historic town of Silves is only 15 minutes away.

Monte Boi Messines is a nice quinta Algarve with a pleasant, stylish and warm interior where you feel home at once!

Accommodation

The quinta Algarve has 3 spacious bedrooms, including an en-suite master bedroom with a good-size double bed and sliding doors to the covered terrace of Monte Boi Messines. From the terrace of the quinta Algarve you can overlook the pool and enjoy the fantastic sea view. The en-suite shower room of the quinta Algarve has a large fitted shower and double hand basin with a large mirror. The other 2 double bedrooms of the quinta Algarve share another shower room.

The large, grand, double aspect entrance hall is the main feature of the quinta Algarve. It gives access to all the rooms. The spacious lounge/dining room has three sets of double doors to the garden, terraces and pool. Villa Monte Boi Messines has a cosy sitting area with a wood burning stove for the winter. The quinta Algarve has a fully equipped kitchen with gas hob and extractor, electric oven and dishwasher and a separate utility room with fridge/freezer. Furthermore Casa Monte Boi Messines has a barbecue and a cot and high chair for the little ones!

Outside

On top of a hill, set on 3000 m2 of private grounds, Monte Boi Messines is a very pleasant holiday villa in the Algarve. The unspoilt views towards the coast take your breath away! The main terrace is covered with Bougainvillea and has a table and chairs. It's a lovely place to relax in the shade while looking over the lush lawns, pool and sea in the distance. Adjacent to the terrace, the quinta Algarve has a swimming pool and ample of sun lounges to enjoy the sun. The garden has some beautiful palm and carob trees, plants and colourful flowers. The whole garden of the quinta Algarve is fenced.

Surroundings

Casa Monte Boi Messines lies in the center of the Algarve, a 40 minutes drive from Faro airport. You can reach the southern beaches within half an hour and the beaches on the west coast within one hour. The quinta Algarve is situated nearby the toll road, making it easy to reach Lisbon or Seville (Spain) in only a couple of hours (aprox 2.5 hours drive).

The villa Messines is located just outside a quiet hamlet called Monte Boi, a small place that belongs to the village of São Bartolomeu de Messines (SB de Messines). SB de Messines is only a 5 minutes drive away and here you can find all amenities. There is a traditional covered market where you can buy fresh vegetables, fruit and fish. There is also a garage, a pharmacy, a post office and a train station with direct links to Lisbon. Messines Algarve has many local cafes and restaurants where you drink coffee and eat local specialties for very little money.

If you like shopping, there are two large supermarkets in Silves (15 min), a historic village with a castle and storks nests. The fairy-tale Silves is a pleasant provincial town where the Portuguese live an easy life. At the time of the Moors, Silves was the capital of the Algarve. The castle of Silves is a relic from that period of Islamic domination. If you're in the neighbourhood, take a break at Cafe Rosa (centre), not only for coffee but also for the beautiful Portuguese tiles. If you fancy a drink or some good Mediterranean food, you should visit the shady terrace of Cafe d'Inglés beside the cathedral!

About 15 minutes away from the quinta Algarve there is a huge shopping mall. Take the Albufeira direction and you will find this 'Algarvian Shopping Centre' in Guia with its large supermarket and trendy shops with famous fashion brands.

There are lots of regional markets in the neighbourhood of the quinta Algarve. The magazine 'The Algarve Resident', which you can buy at the local kiosk in Messines, shows you where the regional markets are held. There is a regional market every second Monday of the month in Algoz, every third Monday in Silves and every fourth Monday in SB de Messines. There is a market in Loule every Saturday.

From the quinta Algarve it's a 15 minutes drive to Alte, an authentic Portuguese mountain village with white houses and steep, narrow streets, on the slope of the Sierra de Caldeirão. Alte is one of Europe's cultural heritages. It has its own theatre and an event calendar with many village festivities in which the locals of Alte participate in large numbers. Alte is a great place to visit. On the way to the church - with the sixteenth-century tiles - you can find a very good pastry shop: AguaMel. Here you find traditional pastries and sweets from the local area. Their patio offers a nice view at the village.

Alte is also famous for its spring water. At the Fonte Pequena the locals fill their bottles with water. There are many opportunities in Alte Algarve for swimming in pure nature. The Fonte, a lovely canal with water from the springs, is situated in the village. Children can safely swim and you can picnic at the surrounding rustic terraces. And then there's the waterfall of Alte behind the cemetery.
